The Conscious Minds - Something New / The Gaylads - Funny Feeling - Soul Beat / Ohm Records 7” Vinyl
Harris B.B. Seaton has been a pioneer in Jamaican music since the beginning of the island’s golden age, starting his career in 1960 at the age of 16. He has written, produced, performed, and orchestrated every sub genre of reggae music from the days of pre ska to the later hits coming out of the dancehall era. B.B. has worked with most every prominent reggae musician through the years, always bringing his signature sound and soulful feeling to the productions. Without question, B.B. Seaton is a true living legend.
The Gaylads were one of the top rocksteady vocal trios through the 1960's and 70's consisting mainly of B.B. Seaton, Maurice Roberts, and Randall Thaxter on vocals. Recording for the likes of Coxsone Dodd, Sonia Pottinger, Leslie Kong, Duke Reid, and Lee Perry's Upsetter labels made them an integral part of the music Jamaica was giving to the world.
As stated in our other listings, The Conscious Minds were brought together by B.B. Seaton in 1969. Members included B.B. Seaton on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ken Boothe on organ, Joe White on piano, Maurice Roberts on bass, Derrick Stewart on drums, Shan Fallen on percussion, Derrick Hinds on trombone, Winston Bryan on tenor sax, Willie Brackenridge on 1st trumpet, and Clive Scott on 2nd trumpet.
Something New is a beautiful instrumental written by B.B. and is the root of the "I Know Myself" rhythm recorded by Ernest Wilson at Channel One Studio. Later re-licked countless times through the 1970's and 80's, most notably by Coco Tea, Roland Burrell, Ringo, Sly Dunbar, and Mikey Spice.
Funny Feeling is another song that was adopted by many other reggae artists including Dennis Brown, Tinga Stewart, Sugar Minott, and Freddie McGregor.
Both tracks produced and arranged by Harris B.B. Seaton circa 1970
